God doesn't have our prejudices

We too often confuse our own prejudices with the will of God. Consider sexual sin. In God's eyes, sexual sin is sexual sin, but we come up with all sorts of degrees of sin based on our personal prejudices and preferences. A cohabitating same-sex couple would not be at all welcome in most sanctuaries on Sunday morning, while a cohabitating hetero couple would. I know of a very large local church which has a program to reach out in love to gays to explain to them the position of God's word on the "lifestyle," yet a HUGE portion of the church's membership consists of women who have never been married, yet have multiple children. Does struggling with a besetting sin mean that one is not a Christian? Would we tell an alcoholic that he is not really a Christian until he's completely sober?

On the other hand, we cannot ignore sin just because in God's eyes it's the same as other sexual sins (Ephesians 5:3). The monstrosities of eisegesis committed in the name of "gay theology" stretch the imagination, redefining some words and ignoring the explicit meaning of others. Focusing on Jesus' love for the sinner is completely appropriate, but I wonder how loving the man who drove the money changers from the temple with a scourge would have been with the male cult prostitutes who were driven out of the temple in Josiah's reign (2 Kings 23:7). God loves us more than our sin, but He also loves us too much to leave us in our sin.
